Founded in 1883, F.J. Dahill has been working on the roofs, walls, and structures that define Connecticut — from universities to historic mansions, hospitals, and churches across the state. We are a commercial and industrial restoration contractor, but more than that, we are stewards of the architectural fabric our clients have entrusted to us for over a century. Every project is approached with the patience, precision, and respect that buildings of significance deserve.
A century-plus of Connecticut craft.
F.J. Dahill is established in New Haven, Connecticut.
The company begins providing roofing and steeplejack services and establishes the foundation for what would become a family-owned specialty contracting business.
F.J. Dahill Co., Inc. is incorporated.
The company formally incorporates as it continues to grow its roofing and specialty construction work.
Steeplejack work becomes part of the Dahill legacy.
Frank “Jack” Dahill becomes known throughout Connecticut for his work on tall structures. In 1936, he was famously photographed atop the steeple of Center Church on the New Haven Green, nearly 18 stories above the ground.
1960s
Roofing and restoration work expands.
The company continues to develop its expertise in commercial roofing and structural work while working on significant Connecticut buildings.
Among the company’s historic projects is work associated with Yale University’s Ingalls Rink, designed by Eero Saarinen.
1990s
A new generation carries the company forward.
The Dahill family continues to build the company’s reputation while developing its capabilities in commercial roofing, restoration, and specialty construction.
Jamie McAdam joined F.J. Dahill full-time in 1976 and became president in 1994.
Rich Maiocco joined F.J. Dahill full-time in 1977 and became President in 2022
During this period, F.J. Dahill’s work and leadership also became recognized within the regional and national roofing industry.
Restoration becomes a defining part of the company.
F.J. Dahill continues working on historic and architecturally significant buildings throughout Connecticut and New England.
The company receives recognition for restoration work, including the John M. Davies House in New Haven.
Our work increasingly combines traditional trade skills with modern construction practices, allowing historic buildings to be repaired while respecting their original materials and design.
2021
Center Church on the Green returns to the Dahill story.
More than 80 years after Frank “Jack” Dahill’s famous work on the church’s steeple, F.J. Dahill returned to Center Church on the Green for a major structural restoration.
The project included extensive work on the 205-foot historic steeple, including structural repairs, wood replacement, water-damage repairs, and restoration of historic architectural details.
The project connected a century of Dahill craftsmen to one of New Haven’s most recognizable landmarks.
A New Era of Safety
When F.J. Dahill began in 1883, roofing and restoration work was performed in an era when few safety standards existed. Craftsmen routinely worked at heights with limited protective equipment and little formal training.
Over the last four decades, that has changed dramatically.
F.J. Dahill has invested in modern fall protection systems, safety training, jobsite planning, equipment, and workforce development. The company has embraced industry best practices and continuously adapted to new regulations and technologies that protect employees working on roofs, scaffolding, steeples, and historic structures.
While the tools and methods have changed, the commitment remains the same: delivering quality work while sending every employee home safely at the end of the day.
Today, safety is built into every phase of a project, from planning and training to execution and supervision. It is one of the most important ways the company has evolved since its founding and one of the foundations that will carry F.J. Dahill into the future.
